Research/CeTR
Introduction and Mission
The
Centre for eTourism Research (CeTR) was created in October 2001. It
brings together the well established expertise of the School of Management
on tourism, hospitality, management and marketing with the emerging
Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) to create an international,
specialised, differentiated and niche research centre on eTourism.
eTourism is perceived in the widest possible sense, which includes
eTravel, eTransport, eHospitality, eCatering/Food. CeTR expands its
pioneering research of the University and includes the "e"
element at the heart of the research and scholarship for each of the
sectors included under the eTourism umbrella. CeTR also generates
synergies with the newly established MSc in eTourism and creates a
cell of innovative research and scholarship with a global distinction.
CeTR reflects the importance of Information Communication Technologies
in modern societies and the gradually increasing interest of international
organisations such as the World Tourism Organisation, the World Tourism
and Travel Council and the European Commission in the wide range of
implications of ICTs and Tourism. CeTR provides leading research results,
facilitates both policy making at the macro level, and develops strategic
tools for optimising competitiveness and maximising profitability
at the micro level. The Centre collaborates with a large number of
individuals, organisations, Destination Management Organisations and
international and intergovernmental bodies that have expertise and
interest in eTourism, on a global base, for developing pioneering
vision and strategy.
Mission Statement
To push the barrier of knowledge of eTourism internationally; to empower
Tourism decision makers to achieve sustainable strategic competitive
advantage through the use of Information Communication Technologies.
