Programme Leader,
Professor Hans van der Heijden
Welcome to the web pages for the MSc in Management Information Systems programme, I hope you find these useful. Please email me if you have any questions about the programme at: h.vanderheijden@surrey.ac.uk

The MSc in Management Information Systems (MIS) is of particular interest to those with a general management degree and who seek careers in an non-IT line of business where they work closely with IT staff; or those who in an IT-company or in an IT-related line of business where they will work closely with business departments such as marketing, accounting and human resources.

Information and information systems are critical to the operations of many, if not all commercial enterprises. In addition, with the mass-scale adoption of the Internet, information systems have become increasingly useful tools for companies to establish online relationships with customers. This ties in with the trend for systems to be used across organisational boundaries, either in the stable business to business relationship, or in a more fluid market relationship where businesses meet each other online on electronic markets and auctions.

The Management Information Systems programme at Surrey is unique in the United Kingdom. Here are the top five reasons why this is so!

  1. Student Experience - Your experience at Surrey is our top priority. Click here to read about current students and their experiences.

  2. The SAP logo

  3. Employability - The MIS Programme is specifically designed to enhance your CV and maximise your "attractiveness" for the IT/IS labour market. We equip you, for example, with valuable SAP skills, a skillset that is in high demand in the marketplace but very difficult to get at the graduate level. Click here for more about our SAP alliance.

  4. Quality of Staff - You will be taught by leading European academics in the MIS area. For example, Professor Bob O'Keefe (teaching Information Strategy) is the chief editor of the European Journal of Information Systems (one of the most important MIS journals outside the US), and Professor Hans van der Heijden (teaching Fundamentals of Information Systems) is the research chair of the upcoming European Conference on Information Systems (www.ecis2008.ie).
